BREAKING: Mississippi State Offensive Lineman Sam Westmoreland Passes Away at Age 19

We have some very tragic news to report as freshman offensive lineman for Mississippi State, Samuel Westmoreland passed away suddenly earlier this week. He was just 19 years old.

Being a native of Tupelo, Ms., Westmoreland was majoring in industrial technology and had not appeared in a Bulldogs game this season per TotalProSports.com.

“The Mississippi State Athletics Family is heartbroken by the sudden death of Sam Westmoreland,” MSU head football coach Mike Leach said in his recent tweet. “Sam was a beloved son, brother and teammate, and a tremendous young man with a limitless future. He will always be remembered and deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

“The entire MSU Family mourns as our thoughts and prayers go out to the Westmoreland family. Our highest priority is the support of the Westmoreland family and our student-athletes during this troubling time.”

Prior to the publishing of this post, the cause of Westmoreland’s death has not been released. No foul play is suspected at this time.
