Big Celebration for U.P. Students Hoping to Happen (Delta/Menominee Counties)

Written by Nate

A lot of events this spring season, such as graduation and prom, have been either cancelled or gone virtual due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but one big event for those high school seniors and college students is hoping to go on.

Kelly Tovar, owner of 906 Events in Escanaba, have a big graduation celebration for certain schools scheduled (as of right now) for Thursday, July 9, held at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris, pending on the news from the pandemic.

The event is to celebrate and recognize senior and college students from Gladstone, Escanaba, Bark River-Harris, North Central, and Hannahville Area Schools, and a few from Bay College in a big graduation-type setting. The celebration is to include having students walk across a stage, dinner, and a dance.

“This current virus stalled a lot of celebrations for a lot of different schools. So I was seeing all of these posts about all of these kids and how sad that they are that their senior year has been stripped from them,” Tovar said in an article by UPmatters.com.

“Once things kind of reopen, I thought it would be a good idea to plan a celebration so that they can still be recognized for their amazing achievements.”

Tovar says that those plans are still looming, and she’s looking around to see if this event sounds interesting to the students.

She also said that donations for meals, DJ, and prizes are appreciated to hopefully make the event go on.

If people do seem interested to recognize those seniors in this setting, they are free to call and/or text Tovar at (906) 287-0377.
