Ben Roethlisberger Out For Week 2 Against Raiders? Mason Rudolph Or Dwayne Haskins To Start?

Written by Chris Powers

While the Steelers had an impressive win last week over the Buffalo Bills in a game they were not given much chance to win, unfortunately veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did not exactly have the best game in the world.

In fact, see what ESPN’s “Next Gen Stats” had to say about Rowthlisberger’s game play last week.

“Ben Roethlisberger was the quickest to throw at 2.3 sec [in Week 1]. Coincidentally, Big Ben’s average time to throw in the 2020 regular season was 2.3 sec, the quickest among all QBs. He was the 2nd most aggressive passer, throwing into a tight window on 31.3% of his passes. Despite throwing into a tight window at a high rate, Roethlisberger continued his tendency to throw short passes, averaging 5.7 air yards/attempt, tied for 4th shortest in Week 1. Through all of 2020, Roethlisberger averaged 7.1 air yards/attempt, 10th shortest among all QBs.”

Stalkers fan were seeing a very similar offense run in 2020. They were going to see Roethlisberger perform at a higher level, especially since the Steelers hired a new offensive coordinator in Matt Canada.

Oddly enough, after a not so impressive game, Roethlisberger showed up on the injury report for the

Steelers week. There is no defined injury and it simply says “coach’s decision.”

So one has to wonder, is Roethlisberger being benched for the upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders? Will Mason Rudolph be taking the snaps? I certainly how that Dwayne Haskins wouldn’t be. My assumption is that Roethlisberger was simply given a break going into the weekend. I would imagine he does not have an undisclosed injury and that he would likely play in today’s game, but it’s still odd that his name is on the list and there has been little to no discussion as to why he’s on there
