The Atlanta Braves locked in yet another one of their young talents. Switch-hitting middle infielder Ozzie Albies agreed to a seven-year $35 million deal on Thursday, April, 11. The deal includes options for both the 2026 and 2027 seasons. This comes just after the Braves signed 2018 National League Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuña Jr. to an eight-year contract worth $100 million.
Last season, Albies played a crucial part in the Braves’ success as Atlanta won the NL East for the first time since 2013. The young Curaçoan finished second on the team with 289 total bases and 24 home runs. Although still early in the season, and the two young studs’ careers, signing both Acuña Jr. and Albies longterm will help solidify the Braves’ chances to repeat as NL East champs. Atlanta is currently 7-4 and tied for first place in the NL East.
