The New York Yankees have their first baseman for the 2022 season.

The Yankees will re-sign veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo to a two-year, $32 million deal.

Rizzo was initially acquired by the Yankees from the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline.

In 49 games for the Yankees, Rizzo hit .249 with eight home runs and 21 RBI. He finished the 2021 season with a .248 average and hitting 22 home runs and 61 RBI and ended up hitting lead off in the American League play-in game against the Boston Red Sox.

Rizzo was well-liked with the Yankees team and many felt he would re-sign with the team. The Cubs were mentioned as a possibility, but in the end, Rizzo decided to return to the Yankees to compete for the playoffs.
