76ers Fire Head Coach Doc Rivers

The Philadelphia 76ers have fired head coach Doc Rivers on Tuesday, as per ESPN.

The Sixers were eliminated in the Eastern Conference semifinals for a third straight season, losing 112-88 in Game 7 to the Boston Celtics on Sunday.

The Sixers were embarrassed in the second half of Game 7. They had a chance to close out the Celtics in Game 6, but they end up choking, once again.

The third-seeded 76ers, who had the third-best record in the NBA at 54-28 with Joel Embiid winning the MVP award, swept the Nets in the first round and had a 3-2 lead over the Celtics.

In three seasons as Sixers head coach, Rivers had a 154-82 (.653), including 54 victories in 2022-23. That win total was franchise’s most since 2000-01.

Rivers has now lost a Game 7 for the tenth time in his career.

After winning an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2008, Rivers has not gotten past the second round of the playoffs in seven seasons with the Clippers and three with the 76ers.

Firing Rivers accomplishes nothing. The problems on this team starts with Joel Embiid and James Harden.
