Death is never something that we enjoy covering but we have too. And today we lost a legend in the baseball world someone who has been a two time World Series champion and on top of that?

He became one of the best announcers of all time. Tim McCarver played in the pros from 1959 – 1980. Yeah, you read that right. This guy loved baseball.

In 1967, he finished second in MVP voting! Tim won two World Series with the Cardinals — but eventually left the org. for Philadelphia in 1970. He went on to play for the Expos and Red Sox, before finishing his career with the Phils.

“All of us at Major League Baseball are grateful for Tim’s impact on sports broadcasting and his distinguished career in our National Pastime,” the commish added. “I extend my deepest condolences to Tim’s family, friends and the generations of fans who learned about our great game from him.”

MLB.com reported the cause of death was heart failure. He was 81 years old.

He is also known for him and Deion Sanders getting into it after his playing career. Some people hate what Deion did but a lot of people love it saying:

“People say that athletes are whiny and abuse the power that they have. However, this is the exact opposite of that. Because he had the chance to, Deion did what every baseball fan in America wishes they could do. Nice work Prime Time. Go Braves!” – Josh Williams

“he deserved EVERY BIT of this..he ragged Deion through the whole series to the point that Deions own mother called the network and said he (Tim) was being unfair to her son…even Family Guy makes fun of Tim.” – Lee Josey

In 2012, McCarver was eventually given the Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award. He had just retired from broadcasting last year.
