10 Years Ago Today: Cardiac Kemba

Written by Will

10 years ago…wow. Can’t believe it has been a decade since this awesome Kemba Walker shot. Uconn wasn’t the favorite to win this at all. Uconn ended the season losing four of five. Entering the Big East tournament as the ninth seed, having to fin five games in five days. Uconn had to beat Depaul and Georgetown to reach the quarterfinals against Pittsburgh.

The game was tied 74-74, everyone knew who the ball was going too. Kemba hit one of the best crossovers ever and got the shot off. Boom, cardiac Kemba gives Uconn the win. Then Kemba and the Huskies go on to beat Syracuse in the semifinals. Then Uconn went on to beat Louisville in the Big East championship, winning five games in five days. Four of those wins against ranked teams. Walker scored 130 points in those five games.

Uconn wasn’t done, they went on to shock the world and won the whole damn thing as a three seed, beating Butler for the national championship. It really was a fairy tale story for the Huskies.
